World Down Syndrome Day
Recently, Christ the King and the Faith in Action team hosted the quarterly New Family Brunch of the Down Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Mid-South (DSAM), providing the food as well as childcare so that family members could relax, enjoy fellowship, and take full advantage of this free educational event. It’s a great outreach, and brings families onto campus who might not otherwise know us, nor we them. Members of FIA served up the food, and pediatric nurse Kristi provided expert childcare, with Pastor Chuck stopping by to hug on the kids.
World Down Syndrome Day is March 21, and there are several ways in which individuals can participate in recognizing the occasion, in addition to simply noting it on their calendars. Check out the website for the 2nd Annual Down Syndrome Awareness Walk and donate toward the purchase of educational tools for DSAM (DSA WalkinInMemphis). Or participate in Rock Your Socks 2019 on March 21, wearing your craziest, loudest, grooviest socks to bring awareness to Down Syndrome Day. In the Memphis area, make plans to attend the Company d Dancers production at Hutchison School on March 21 and 22, at 7PM, and see some amazing performers. And pray — pray for wisdom and guidance for families, physicians, and caregivers; for understanding, acceptance, and encouragement from others; and in thanksgiving for the miracle of life and for every child who is a gift.
