Growing together in the Word at Christ the King, Memphis

Calm in the Midst of Chaos

As Christ the King Lutheran Church moves forward with plans for demolition, construction, and expansion, the office staff is facing the challenges of moving to temporary quarters with aplomb. Staffers who have been on board for 30+ years have spent weeks wading through documents, decor, book collections, and memorabilia in files, cabinets, bookcases, closets — pruning, recycling, storing. Within a few weeks, most of the staff will take up residence in a nearby CTK-owned house, while others will work from offices on the school campus. For the next year to year-and-a-half, things will seem a little topsy-turvy, but the work of the church staff and the Church as a whole will continue in good order, assuring that Christ the King remains consistently a Christ-centered, joyful place to worship and serve.

ChuckatDeskinChaosIt’s hard to believe that Pastor Chuck can write a sermon in the midst of such chaos, but our Lord assures us that He is with us in times of stress (packing!) and anxiety (moving!) so he is able to concentrate on God’s Word for the good of God’s people. “You keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You.” Isaiah 26:3

We ask the members for patience as we find temporary places and accommodations for other important aspects of church life, including weekday and Sunday morning Bible classes, committee meetings, church dinners, and other areas of fellowship and service. We’re all in this together and NOW IS OUR TIME to celebrate the exciting plans that will provide additional and updated space for reaching out to the community, as well as more easily accommodating the weekly activities of a congregation of our size and energy.

Say a prayer that everything goes smoothly in the move and in the year to come. Watch the bulletin, website, newsletter, social media outlets, CTK App, and NIOT microsite for the latest updates. We’ll definitely be a “work in progress” for a while, but our ability to adapt and the knowledge that the end product will glorify God in ways we can’t even imagine today will be all we need to do this gracefully and cheerfully.
